Boerne, TX Water Conditioning, Purification, Testing & Treatment

Boerne Joe' Plumbing offers professional water testing and water conditioning & treatment services for customers in the Boerne & Fair Oaks Ranch TX area. We test water for hardness as well as pH and minerals, including iron and TDS levels. Some minerals and chemicals can be dangerous to your family, requiring treatment to make water safe for drinking and bathing. Water hardness can contribute to problems with appliances and throughout your plumbing system. High iron levels can produce foul odors and rusty colored stains.

Hard water usually poses no danger, but it can prove to be very annoying. Hard water can make clean laundry appear stiff and feel scratchy on your skin. Hard water may also leave detergent residue on clean dishes, and can even make it more difficult to wash soap from your skin. Along with testing, we offer water treatment and conditioning that can effectively remedy your hard water and other unsafe water problems.

Boerne, TX Iron Filtration

To effectively filter iron from well water the water must go through a process called oxidation. Oxidation simply puts the iron in a solid form where it can be removed from the water. There are two ways to achieve oxidation.

  • The first uses harsh chemicals such as chlorine.
  • The second uses oxygen from the air we breathe. Boerne Joe' Plumbing prefers to use oxygen as a safe and natural way to remove iron from well water.

We can expose the water to oxygen by using venturis, a compressor, or filters that will hold a pocket of air in place. Once we have exposed the iron to oxygen we typically use a contact tank to give the process time to react. Afterwards the iron is in a solid form and can be filtered using a stand-up auto backwashing filter. These filters have an automated backwash so that there is very little maintenance to perform and the filter keeps working to supply clean iron free water to your home.

Boerne, TX U.V. Purification / Ultraviolet Light Water Purification

Put simply a U.V. Purifier uses ultra-violet light to kill waterborne contaminants. U.V. lights are commonly used to treat water contaminated with coliform bacteria and ecoli. The benefits of U.V. light/filtration is low maintenance, low operating costs, simple operation, and unlike chlorine treatment the ability to effectively treat the water without altering the taste or odor of your water. The most significant benefit to U.V. light/filtration, is the peace of mind knowing that you have a safe and reliable fresh water supply.

A U.V. light/filter works by exposing water to ultraviolet treatment by using ultraviolet lamps placed within the treatment chamber. Although the water resides within the chamber for only a few seconds, it receives a sufficient UV dosage to be lethal to microorganisms present in the water. The water quality in the system must be free from turbidity otherwise a 5 micron filter may be needed prior to water treatment.

Most ultraviolet bulbs have a lifespan of about 9,000 hours or one year. With this in mind we recommend replacing the bulb annually and cleaning the sleeve as well. Most of the units we sell will come equipped with an alarm to alert you when the bulb needs to be replaced and the unit cleaned.
